web 111Five adults and eleven senior highs spent a busy week in Mission Texas.  They did some sight seeing but more importantly they worked on Sofia’s home which had been damaged by flooding.

Flew to San Antonio, TX.  Spent the morning at the Alamo, a truly awesome experience.  Checking out the Rio Grande and Mexico!  Almost everyone’s phones started switching to Mexican cell towers and roaming charges. Glad I had roaming turned off on my phone

Day 1:  We ripped off siding and helped to plant a tree.   Lots of work mixed in with some fun.  Thankful for the partly cloudy day and breeze–so temps while quite warm were not as hot as they could be.  Great teamwork all day!  First day of work was successful!

Day 2: Cloud cover this morning kept the heat down. Accomplished a good bit of work including placing insulation and hanging T1-11. Once again great teamwork and support of each other! The home owner made us lunch too!  Early evening visit to the border where we met Border Patrol Officer Manny who was surprised by our visit but gracious to give us his time for some Q&A

Day 3: What a gorgeous day the Lord made. We were very thankful for the cloudy skies and wind. Simply beautiful.  Worked on soffit, framing & siding the back of the house, and repairing a window damaged by water & termites. We were going to treat the kids to a beach day at South Padre Island, but instead put in our longest day…working until 5:00.  Wow, we have been so fortunate with some cooler weather this week! Long day, but we accomplished a good bit of work that included hanging more T1-11, caulking, framing for a door and a window, and still time for a lesson in hammering from John (one of the members of First Presbyterian helping us this week).

Day 4: Punch list completed which included lots of trim work and installing a new window. We left exhausted but satisfied that we made some necessary improvements.  Ended the day with beach time and dinner with fireworks.

Last day of work yesterday, and boy did we work hard!  It was the hottest day yet, but the sense of accomplishment at the end was worth it.  So proud of these kids. They definitely deserved their quick swim in the ocean, nice dinner, and the fireworks. Many thanks to everyone at First Presbyterian in Mission for making this trip such a success

Our last full day in Texas. We cleaned up, said our goodbyes, and got on the road by 10. After making it through the border patrol checkpoint things were smooth sailing! We spent time at the Riverwalk, which was gorgeous, had an excellent dinner, and shopped in some wonderful souvenir stores before finding our way back to San Pedro Presbyterian.
