The Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston (she/her) began serving with the congregation of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church as Senior Pastor/Head of Staff in March 2009. Ordained in 2001, Reverend Johnston previously served with Dickinson Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, PA. She has a passion for seeing everyone as a Beloved Child of God and extending welcome accordingly. A graduate of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, Kathryn earned her M.Div. at Princeton Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey (2000); her home state. Reverend Johnston is married to the Reverend Martha K. Spong. Together they have four children (3 ‘adulting’ out in the world, 1 in college), amazing grandchildren, and a couple of dogs.

Emily D. Sutphin (she/her) joined the staff at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church in July 2023 as the Associate Pastor. She completed her undergraduate studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and recently graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary, specializing in Theology, Ecology, and Faith Formation. She is passionate about building interpersonal relationships and striving to build bridges between MPC and the broader Mechanicsburg community. Emily enjoys spending time with her cat, volunteering with food pantries, learning Spanish and being creative.

Cathay Snyder (she/her) became a member of MPC in 2003 and is an ordained ruling elder. She spent many volunteer hours working as a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and story teller at VBS, and served as our Interim Youth Director in 2011. Since 1998, Cathay has taught in the History Department at Messiah College as an Adjunct Instructor and also serves as the Coordinator for the National History Day Regional contest that they host each year. Cathay received a B.A. in History/Secondary Education from Cedar Crest College and an M.A. in American Studies from PSU. She enjoys reading, the beach, historical research, and spending time with friends and family, especially with her niece, nephews, and grandsons. She joined the MPC staff on August 28, 2017.

Mark McKeever (he/his) is the Director of Music and Organist. He joined the MPC staff on May 1, 2017. He grew up in the Philadelphia area and received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Westminster Choir College in 2000. Mark has over twenty years experience as a conductor, keyboard and woodwind artist, and a vocalist. Mark, his wife Jessica and daughter Braelyn moved here from Camden NJ. Mark is also a certified golf instructor.

Angie Weir (she/her) is our Church Administrator and has worked at MPC since May, 2019. She grew up in Wellsville, PA and graduated from York County High School and Bryant & Stratton College. She has two daughters and resides in Mechanicsburg. Angie enjoys spending time with her girls, being outdoors and traveling.

Karen Taylor (she/her) is our Director of Playful Beginnings Preschool and appreciates the importance of family, faith and learning through play in a child’s life. She grew up in Carlisle and attended Second Presbyterian Church. After graduating from the University of Delaware, she returned to the area with her husband, Allen. They have two grown children, Kathleen and Adam. Karen is active in her home church and in the community. She enjoys her husband’s cooking, reading a good thriller, and organizing.
