Hello! We began this morning in Kelly Ingram Park, which served as an assembly spot for the Civil Rights Children's March. Today, the park contains sculptures depicting events in Birmingham's struggle for civil rights.
This park is directly across the road from 16th Street Baptist Church. 16th Street Baptist Church served as the center of community life in Birmingham, Alabama. The church was bombed on Sunday, September 15, 1963, killing four little girls, forcing Birmingham and America to face segregation in society.
We continued our day in Nashville with a visit to the National Museum of African American Music where we traveled through time from the 1600s to today and space from Africa to America, exploring the origins and growth of African American music.
We will be spending the night in Clinton, TN before driving back to Mechanicsburg tomorrow. See you Sunday! - Cathay and Pastor Emily
