The Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston
|The Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston began serving with the congregation of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church as Senior Pastor/Head of Staff in March, 2009. Ordained in 2001, Reverend Johnston previously served as Solo Pastor at Dickinson Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, PA. She has a passion for proclaiming the Word of God and seeks to nurture God’s beloved children in all stages of their faith. She currently serves on the Strategy Team of NEXT Church. A graduate of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, Kathryn earned her M.Div. at Princeton Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey; her home state. Reverend Johnston is married to the Reverend Martha K. Spong. Together they have four children (2 grown, 1 in college, 1 in middle school), 2 cats and a lively lab mix named Teddy.
The Reverend Mark A. Allio
|The Reverend Mark A. Allio is our Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults. He grew up in Clarion, PA and attended Clarion University. He followed a call in Youth Ministry by serving as Director of Youth and Families at First Presbyterian Church in Anchorage, AK for three years. He returned to Pennsylvania to attend Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and graduated in May 2011. His family includes his wife Carrie and sons Asher and Gage.
|Mary Speedy is our interim Director of Christian Education. She became a member of MPC in 2010 and has been a Sunday School teacher, a grandfriend, and worked with the Peacemaking and Justice Committee. She is a certified Christian Educator who was presented with the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Mary has worked as a Christian Educator in New York State, near Philadelphia, and locally at Pine Street, Camp Hill, and Monaghan Presbyterian Churches. She is honorably retired from Monaghan in 2009.
Organist and Choir Director
|The Music Search Committee is continuing its work to fill this position. Our organists through January of 2017 are David Binkley, Brenda Leach, and Helen Anthony. Gary Weber is the temporary director of the Chancel Choir.
Connie J. Sutton
|Connie J. Sutton is the Administrative Assistant for MPC and began serving in 1976. She grew up in Mechanicsburg and graduated from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School and Goldey Beacom Junior College at Wilmington, DE. She and her husband, Herb, have one son, Jeff, who resides in Los Angeles, CA. Connie’s joys include gardening, the outdoors and watching movies.
|Jennifer Arndt is the Office Manager and has worked at MPC since April, 2006. Originally from northeastern Pennsylvania, she is a 1998 graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Jennifer and her husband, John, married in August, 2000, and have two children, Ethan and Olivia. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
Don Hopper has been the church Treasurer since 1980. Don received a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA. Don’s corporate career was with Verizon’s accounting and data processing department. After many transfers, he and his family settled in the Central PA area. He and his wife, Ginny, both enjoy traveling, their home, and meeting new people. They are also active in community organizations. Don and Ginny have two grown children, Jeff and Jodi.
|Karen is our Director of Playful Beginnings Preschool. She grew up in Carlisle and attended Second Presbyterian Church. After graduation from the University of Delaware, she returned to the area with her husband, Allen. They have two children: Kathleen, who studies at Temple University, and Adam, a recent graduate of Cedar Cliff High School. Karen is active in her home church and community. She enjoys her husband’s cooking, reading a good thriller, and not weeding. She thinks there is always something better to do than weeding.
|Haydee became a member of our church staff in April 2016 and is our Custodian. She and her husband have three children. Their oldest daughter is married, their son is in the pre-med program at University of Pittsburgh, and the youngest daughter is in elementary school. Haydee enjoys cruising and cooking.
